Root Protocol

You can access your datasets on LRZ LocalGroupdisk (and most other ATLAS sites as well) via the xrootd protocol. It is encouraged to use it as replacement for dcap (end 2015).

Usage

You can get the paths with a standard rucio setup (slc6):

rucio list-file-replicas --protocols root --rse LRZ-LMU_LOCALGROUPDISK <dataset identifier> 

One example to extract the paths would be:

rucio list-file-replicas --protocols root --rse LRZ-LMU_LOCALGROUPDISK <dataset identifier> | grep 'LRZ-LMU_LOCALGROUPDISK:' | grep -Eo 'root://[^[:space:]]*'

Direct usage via /project/etp-dcache mountpoint

The content on LRZ-LMU_LOCALGROUPDISK is also mounted on /project/etp-dcache for convenient use directly via the filesystem. You can automatically generate symlinks to the paths for a given dataset identifier in your current folder:

rucio list-file-replicas --protocols root --rse LRZ-LMU_LOCALGROUPDISK --link "/pnfs:/project/etp-dcache" <dataset identifier>

For example:

rucio list-file-replicas  --protocols root --rse LRZ-LMU_LOCALGROUPDISK --link "/pnfs:/project/etp-dcache" user.nihartma:user.nihartma.oneLep_mergedTrees_T_06_10

Will create the following links in your current directory

allTrees_T_06_10_bkg.root -> /project/etp-dcache/lrz-muenchen.de/data/atlas/dq2/atlaslocalgroupdisk/rucio/user/nihartma/a2/8e/allTrees_T_06_10_bkg.root
allTrees_T_06_10_data.root -> /project/etp-dcache/lrz-muenchen.de/data/atlas/dq2/atlaslocalgroupdisk/rucio/user/nihartma/50/68/allTrees_T_06_10_data.root
allTrees_T_06_10_NoSys.root -> /project/etp-dcache/lrz-muenchen.de/data/atlas/dq2/atlaslocalgroupdisk/rucio/user/nihartma/05/b6/allTrees_T_06_10_NoSys.root
